WRAPPED IN SUPPORT
A GUIDED MEDITATION FOR SOFTENING INTO CARE
Introduction: Welcoming the Listener
Preparing for the Practice
“You are listening to Wrapped in Support: A Meditation for Softening into Care.”
This life asks so much of us, especially from those of us who from a young age have been taught to carry.
We carry responsibilities,
the emotions of others,
and the unseen weight of the world around us.
Sometimes we carry it so well that no one sees
that we, too, need care.
This meditation is an invitation
to set down what you have been carrying,
and soften into the care that is here for you.
Before we begin, take a moment to create a quiet space where you can rest.
Have a warm shawl or soft blanket nearby.
If you have the Wrapped in Support journal, you may want it close by to record any reflections..
There is no right or wrong way to do this. Just bring an open heart and a willingness to receive.
Tuning Into the Longing
Settle into a comfortable position and take a breath.
Let it be slow and deep.
Feel the air filling your chest, expanding your ribs,
and then, as you exhale, allow yourself to settle just a little deeper.
Continue breathing, dropping into this moment.
This time, I invite you to close your eyes as you take another slow deep breath, and let the exhale take with it any tension you are ready to release.
And now, let’s journey inward.
Drift back to a time when longing for care rose within you, pure and unfiltered.
What was it like to be fully awake to this desire?
To feel your need for connection filling every part of you?
What happens in your body when this desire arises now?
Do you feel a warmth deep in your chest,
nudging you to embrace your loved one?
Or does your jaw tighten, holding back the words you wish you could say?
Our longing for tenderness is as natural as hunger and thirst,
and yet we learn to push it away.
Fearing that it is too much.
That we are too much.
In the moments where we were left alone in our longing
we learned to be ashamed of being human,
and came to feel that there is something broken within us.
But this longing is not a sign that you are broken, beloved.
It is something deep within you, asking to be met.
For some of you, the longing was never silenced, it was revered.
It burned like a flame cupped between your hands,
its heat the only warmth you knew.
You learned to equate longing with love.
But hear this, brave one:
That fire was never meant to be your light.
It was a messenger carrying sacred instructions:
To seek nourishing connection.
You do not have to keep holding your longing so tightly.
For you are the one that needs to be held.
Wrapping Yourself in Care
Let us meet and honor this longing together now.
Take your shawl or blanket.
Wrap it slowly, intentionally around yourself.
Not just draped over your shoulders, but truly held.
Take a breath.
Feel your longing for care and your weariness from resisting it or clinging too tightly.
This time, instead of shrinking or bracing, allow yourself to soften into your own embrace.
Let your arms cover your chest, cradling your own form as if you were holding a loved one close.
Feel the ache in your chest, not as emptiness,
but as a sacred pull toward love.
As a longing to be seen and cherished: not for what you do,
but simply for who you are.
Feel the weight of the fabric pressing into you.
The way it gathers around you, offering presence where you may have felt alone.
There is nothing to fix here.
Simply receive your own care.
Feel the warmth of the fabric around you.
Imagine that this warmth is love, pouring into the places that have felt too empty for too long.
Let it meet your longing… to be held, to be seen, to be soothed.
Now gently turn your attention inward to a place where the hunger for care was once silenced or hidden.
Imagine this place as a door, and notice—it was never locked.
Your longing has simply been waiting.
Not to be judged or dismissed, but to be met.
If it feels right, speak these words quietly inside:
“I am not too much.
I don’t have to brace or endure anymore.
It is safe to soften and receive.”
Whatever arises is welcome.
Whether a rising grief, a gentle opening of your heart, or a cautious breath, it is enough. You are enough.
Inhale… feel the door begin to open.
Exhale… let your heart step forward.
Integration
You have done something sacred today. You met your own longing with presence.
And as you rest here, notice what’s different: a gentleness? A loosening? A deeper knowing that you were never too much, and you are not alone?
Let this feeling expand within you, like a door opening to a world of care.
Closing Grounding
And now, let yourself arrive gently. Feel the surface beneath you. The air on your skin. The light shifting behind your closed eyes.
When you’re ready, slowly, gently open your eyes.
